Welcome – Baruch Habah!
I’m an independent multi-denominational Cantor, officiating for all families, especially those who are independent and/or disenfranchised. While I’m based in Chicago, my ordination is valid in all 50 states.
My musical style is traditional, and my personal style is progressive. I’m trained to be multi-denominational, so whether you’re Conservative, Reform, Renewal, Reconstructionist, somewhere in between, or none of the above, that’s okay!
My ceremonies are inclusive, warm, light-hearted, and include traditional melodies. I translate all Hebrew blessings and explain all symbolism so your guests understand the meaning. I also like to personalize my ceremonies to reflect your personality and preferences.
Currently, I am officiating both in person and on Zoom (depending on the situation). I also offer assistance streaming your ceremony so loved ones who can’t join you in person can still attend!
Additionally, I am open to co-officiating and have done so in the past with Rabbis, Priests, Deacons, and family friends. I want your event to be special and reflect who you are and what is important to you.
Why a Cantor?
Cantors are also ordained Jewish clergy who can perform all life cycle events! Plus, we’re trained singers, so especially if you like music, Cantors can add a lot of beauty to your ceremony. (Accompaniment is optional.)
Bio:
Cantor Joanna P. Lind is the sixth generation Lind family cantor following her grandfather, Cantor Dale Lind, and his father, Hazan Joshua Lind, both also renowned teachers and liturgical composers. At the age of seven, Cantor Lind became the nation’s youngest Cantorial Soloist, singing at her family’s Conservative-style, egalitarian, independent congregation, Sons of Joshua, which provided a place for unaffiliated Chicago-area Jews to attend high holiday services.
Having earned a B.S. from Northwestern University (Theatre), Cantor Lind was later ordained through JSLI in a multi-denominational program. Currently, she performs life cycle events independently and is the cantor part-time for Ahavat Olam, a small congregation led by Rabbi Cantor Nancy Landsman.
Outside of her religious calling, Cantor Lind is also a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, performer, writer, and Mommy.
